Naming Opportunities at GOHS
A range of naming opportunities are still available for individuals, families, organizations, and corporations for the Greater Oneonta Historical Society’s gallery space on our first floor at the History Center & Museum, as well as for our second floor and our newly renovated third floor ballroom. These naming opportunities enable donors and corporate sponsors to pay tribute to the community and their relationship with GOHS, or to honor and recognize someone special in their lives.

Permanent Exhibition Areas:
The Alice Lou Differt Siegfried Gallery
Small Community, Big Ideas: Greater Oneonta consists of five different parts, each with its own unique history, images, and interactive activities. Each of these parts of the exhibition has the potential to be named.

Part 1: A Landscape In Transition
This section explores the area’s early geography, natural resources, and early Native Americans and European settlers.
Part 2: A Place of Possibility
This section surveys the many changes the village of Oneonta underwent in the early decades of the 1800s and the development of a community.
Part 3: Creating a Destination
This section emphasizes Oneonta’s distinction as a destination town with the coming of the railroad in the 1860s.
Part 4: Remodeling a City
This section sheds light on the various ways Oneonta reinvented itself in the middle decades of the twentieth century to keep with social and economic transformations.
Part 5: What's Next?
The Pietraface-Miller Gallery
This section encourages visitors to question what might be the next “big idea” for Oneonta? It includes an interactive activity for visitors to contribute their own ideas for Oneonta’s future.
Gift & Retail Shop
In addition to the gallery and exhibition spaces, GOHS offers naming opportunities for our newly designed gift and retail shop on the first floor. The shop includes locally made goods, GOHS and exhibition-branded items, and a unique variety of local history books, souvenirs, apparel, postcards, jewelry, toys, and gifts that can only be found at the History Center & Museum.
Second Floor
Additional naming opportunities on the second floor at the History Center & Museum are also possible. These rooms will be named in perpetuity in honor of or in memory of an individual, organization, business, or individual or family.

Third Floor Ballroom
Third Floor
This naming opportunity covers the entirety of the third-floor space!
Ballroom
The ballroom is the lifeblood of the GOHS’s third floor. Once the location for local community gatherings, events, balls, and live music, the newly renovated ballroom will continue the legacy of our building’s third floor. The space will serve as a destination for residents, local organizations, tourists, and the community to attend and enjoy institutional meetings, get-togethers, parties, fundraisers, programs, celebrations, and GOHS events and programs—the possibilities are endless.
Exhibition Gallery
In addition to the ballroom space, GOHS’s third floor will include an exhibition space that we will use for the display of our oversized collection items and temporary and permanent displays. This gallery space will help boost the community’s involvement in and access to Oneonta’s local history and the humanities and arts.
Kitchen
No event space is complete without a kitchen! The third-floor kitchen will be equipped to accommodate large and small-scale catered events. It will include storage space, a refrigerator, sink, cabinet space, and microwave.
Bandstand
One of the original features of the ballroom, the raised bandstand, accommodated local bands and musicians who provided entertainment to the many visitors who attended events on the third floor. While the bandstand will no longer be active or accessible from below, its historic legacy lives on.
Windows
The eleven original windows on the third floor are a tribute to GOHS’s building and our history as the oldest surviving brick building on historic Main Street.
