“Electric Lake” Walking Tour – CANCELED

October 10, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

On Sunday, October 10, Jim Loudon, historian and author of “Electric Lake: Oneonta’s Forgotten Gem,” will lead us on a tour at the site of the former lake. Keep in mind, this tour may be strenuous and require walking through mud or even water. Wear hiking boots, bring insect repellent, and be wary of ticks! Be advised, this tour meets at 2pm. There will be free and accessible parking available off the I-88 eastbound on ramp, where the tour will meet (see map). Before getting on the highway, you will see a sign that says “no motor vehicles.” Follow it and there will be permitted parking there. This tour is by donation and reservations are not required. In the event of rain, a rain date has been scheduled for the following Sunday, October 17 at 2pm.

UPDATE (10/1/21):
Unfortunately, we were forced to CANCEL the scheduled “Electric Lake” Walking Tour scheduled for Sunday, October 10, led by historian and author Jim Loudon. After visiting the site, it does not appear safe to lead a tour on the terrain at the former location of the lake. However, GOHS is in the process of developing a self-guided “Electric Lake” tour that we will offer on our website for those interested in taking the tour at their own risk. We will provide updates on this project on our website and Facebook and Instagram pages. Apologies for any inconvenience.
